The Little Mermaid
A 32-page illustrated reinterpretation of Hans Christian Andersen's "The Little Mermaid."
Process + Visual Direction
I started this project off by rereading the original story by Hans Christian Andersen, and let myself take creative control of the visuals based on what I pictured when I read the story.
My objective was to create a magical environment filled with characters that felt realistic but still otherworldly. I used a limited color palette, focusing on natural tones as well as bright teals and oranges.
